Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drives you to Gran Meliá Arusha — gardens, and Mount Meru standing over the whole thing.
A quiet first evening after the flight, and dinner whenever suits.

After breakfast you drive to Tarangire and spend the full day in the park, following the river through the baobabs.
The elephant herds here are the largest you will see on this trip, and there is very little you have to work for.
You stay at Elephant Springs, inside the park — which means the noise at night is the park’s rather than the road’s.

An early game drive in Tarangire while it is cool and the animals are moving, working your way slowly towards the gate.
Then Lake Manyara for a second game drive: groundwater forest, open plains and the lakeshore in one small park, with big baboon troops, hippo, and the tree-climbing lions it is known for.
You finish the day up in the highlands at Kitela Lodge, in gardens and coffee.

North-west through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, game viewing the whole way, and on into the Serengeti.

The whole day in the park, shaped by your guide around whatever the last twenty-four hours have turned up rather than by a fixed route.

Up early for a final game drive while the light is still low on the plains.
Back for lunch, and then the long, scenic climb east through the highlands to Lion’s Paw Camp, set near the crater rim so that tomorrow can start before everyone else’s.

An early breakfast and down onto the crater floor for the morning — the Big Five, and hippo, hyena and flamingo besides.
In the afternoon you carry on south-west to the shore of Lake Eyasi and Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp, which is a very different sort of quiet.

The morning is spent with the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer communities in Africa, alongside local guides who can translate both the language and the context — how the hunting works, and what the relationship with this country actually is.
Then the neighbouring Datoga, who are known for their blacksmithing, and whose craft you can watch being done.
In the afternoon you drive back to Arusha and the Arusha Coffee Lodge.

You start with Shanga, a social enterprise employing people with disabilities, where jewellery, glassware and textiles are made on site.
Then Materuni Village on the slopes of Kilimanjaro — a guided walk through coffee country to the waterfall, which is a good deal taller than most people expect.
Afterwards, on to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
