Route Map

Day by day

Every day here is private — your own guide and your own vehicle — so the order holds but the hours are yours to move.

Day 1 01

Arrival in Arusha

Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and takes you to Gran Meliá Arusha, with Mount Meru standing behind it.

Dinner, and an early night. The driving starts tomorrow.

Day 2 02

Tarangire National Park

South-west after breakfast to Tarangire, where the baobabs are enormous and the elephant herds are the largest you are likely to see on this trip.

A game drive through the park, and then up to Lemala Mpingo Ridge, which sits high enough to give you the whole valley from your deck.

Day 3 03

The Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast you drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater itself.

The floor is twenty kilometres across and closed in on every side, which is why so much wildlife sits in it — and why it is the best place in Tanzania to look for black rhino.

A picnic lunch down there, then back up to the rim and Lion’s Paw Camp for a quiet evening in the highlands.

Day 4 04

Ngorongoro to the Serengeti

The drive north-west through the conservation area and into the Serengeti is a long one, and it is also a game drive — the short-grass plains on the way in are where a great deal happens.

You settle into Lala Salama in the central Serengeti in the afternoon.

Day 5 05

A Full Day in the Serengeti

The whole day is yours in the park with your guide.

Questions

Is this a private safari?
Yes. The vehicle, the guide and the itinerary are yours alone — you share the day with nobody outside your own party.
When should we travel?
It runs all year. June to October is the dry season and the easiest game viewing; January to March is the calving season in the southern Serengeti; July to September is the northern Serengeti and the Mara River crossings. Zanzibar is warm throughout.
Is the balloon safari included?
No — it is an optional extra. A sunrise flight over the Serengeti followed by a champagne bush breakfast, added to the full Serengeti day and quoted separately.
Can we see Stone Town properly?
Yes. A guided Stone Town tour can go on the afternoon you arrive or on the morning you leave, depending on your flights.
Can the itinerary be changed?
Yes. Because it is private, the nights, the lodges, the activities and the pace can all move. Tell us what you have in mind and we will redraft it.
