Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drives you to Arusha Serena Hotel, Resort & Spa, set in gardens above Lake Duluti.
A day to do nothing in, which is the right way to begin a week of early starts.

Arusha National Park is the most varied park on this route and the only one you can walk in, so that is how the day starts: on foot with a ranger, looking at tracks, plants, birds and the small things a vehicle drives past.
The afternoon is an unhurried game drive through forest, open plains, the Momella Lakes and old volcanic country, and then back to the Serena for the evening.

South-west to Tarangire — ancient baobabs, a seasonal river, and one of the largest elephant populations in Africa.
A full day’s game drive, and then Elephant Springs by Karibu Camps, which sits inside the park rather than outside the gate.

The morning is in Mto wa Mbu, one of the most culturally mixed towns in Tanzania — farms, the market, and how people here actually live.
Then up into the Ngorongoro highlands to Kitela Lodge, with coffee plantations on every side.

North-west through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and on into the Serengeti, game driving as you go.
You arrive at Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge, in the middle of the central Serengeti and the middle of the game.

A final morning game drive across the plains, and lunch.
The afternoon is the drive back east through the conservation area to Lion’s Paw by Karibu Camps, set just off the crater rim so that tomorrow starts early and close.

Down into the crater for the day — the best single day’s game viewing in Tanzania, and the one where the Big Five are all genuinely on the table.
Afterwards the road back to Arusha and Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge, which sits in the middle of one of the largest coffee estates in the country.

A slow breakfast, and then Shanga — a social enterprise employing people with disabilities, who make glass, beadwork and textiles on site and will show you how.
If your flight is late enough there is time for a short Arusha town tour before the transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
