Day by day

Every day here is private — your own guide and your own vehicle — so the order holds but the hours are yours to move.

Day 1 01

Arrival in Arusha

You are met at Kilimanjaro International Airport and driven to Hamerkop House by Lemala, a quiet boutique house near Arusha.

The evening is for settling in and getting over the journey.

Day 2 02

Fly to the Serengeti

After breakfast you transfer to Arusha Airport for the scheduled flight into the Serengeti — far less time on the road, and more of it on game drives.

Your guide meets you on arrival and the first drive starts across the plains, home to the Big Five, the Great Wildebeest Migration and some of the densest predator populations in Africa.

Day 3 03

A Full Day in the Central Serengeti

A full day in the central Serengeti, around the Seronera Valley, where permanent water keeps the game in place all year and the predator sightings are some of the best in the park.

Morning and afternoon drives after lion, leopard, cheetah and elephant, and the herds moving across the plains.

Day 4 04

Another Full Day in the Serengeti

A second full day, which lets your guide follow the animals and try different parts of the park.

Depending on the season, that may mean part of the Great Wildebeest Migration, predators at work, or big gatherings of game out on the plains.

Day 5 05

The Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Highlands

A last morning game drive in the Serengeti, then the drive south-east through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area as the plains give way to the highlands around the crater.

You finish at Lion’s Paw Camp, near the rim and looking over it.

Down more than 600 metres onto the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which holds a remarkable concentration of animals and good odds on the Big Five — the endangered black rhino among them.

Afterwards you drive on to the Karatu highlands and Kitela Lodge, where a guided walk through the coffee plantation is part of the stay.

Then on to Tarangire for an afternoon and evening game drive among the elephant herds and the old baobabs. As the other vehicles head out of the park you stay on, and have it far more to yourselves.

FAQs

Is this a private safari?
Yes. The vehicle, the guide and the itinerary are yours alone — you share the day with nobody outside your own party.
Why fly in?
Flying straight to the Serengeti takes most of a day off the road, and that day goes on game drives instead.
Will we see the Great Migration?
The herds are somewhere in the Serengeti all year, and your guide takes you to the best of the game viewing for the season you travel in.
Does it suit families?
Yes. The pace is relaxed, the lodges take families properly, and the long Serengeti stay means fewer days in the vehicle moving between camps.
Can the itinerary be changed?
Yes. Because it is private, the nights, the lodges, the activities and the pace can all move. Tell us what you have in mind and we will redraft it.
